Bristol Avon Sailing Club (BASC) was founded in 1955 by a group of local sailors keen to make use of the River Avon on their doorstep for the then rapidly expanding sport of dinghy sailing.

The club has grown enormously since then and now has a purpose built clubhouse (refurbished in 2015) with changing rooms, licensed bar, galley and large club room. We are a friendly medium sized club with new and long standing members always willing to lend a hand to youngsters and beginners.

The club has two safety boats to provide cover for all club sailors whether they are cruising, racing or youngsters capsizing their Topper dinghies just for fun. A number of club-owned dinghies are available for occasional loan to club members to help them get into the swing of things. These boats – Toppers, Comets, Lasers and Topazs – enable beginners to get on the water prior to taking a decision on which of the many different types and classes of dinghy they might like to buy (a second hand sailing dinghy can be purchased for around £300).

Various competitively priced memberships are available for families, juniors and singles and membership can include storage for your dinghy in our secure dinghy park. So, if you want to start sailing, improve your skills or just love messing about in boats, come and give us a try. You are guaranteed a warm welcome.

Call into the clubhouse any Sunday or Wednesday evening, or telephone the clubhouse on 01225 873472 for an informal chat or more information.
